The single eye fell to the proffered box, then back up to her. Disgustingly kind eyes shouldn’t even be looking at him, let alone trying to give him something. It was a stupid question, but now he was speaking at least.
“What is it?”
Whether he thought he deserved it or not, Shelly would continue to show him kindness— everyone deserves it, no matter how tainted their past is. A soft chuckle left her lips as she leaned forward to set the present in his lap. Seeing as it was getting close to Christmas, Shelly decided to get him a present—well, two actually. This was his first one. It was a silver pocketwatch. Nothing too fancy, but she had his initials inscribed on the inside.
“A gift— open it and you’ll see.”
No, he didn’t think he deserved it. If Kevin really wanted to accept a gift he would’ve preferred a few lashes upside his head or back or something. His eyes didn’t flicker down to the box now sitting in his lap, but his finger did twitch against it. As badly as he didn’t want to open this, he knew she wouldn’t let it go until he did. A sigh, and he still refused to take it in his hand; yet.

“Do I have to?”
